There is a fresh and vibrant city, with excellent office spaces, great accessibility and unrivalled support services for new and existing businesses. The city is Sunderland.
Jonathan Wells is from Washington in the city of Sunderland and runs a thriving online learning business, Guroo, based at the city’s state-of-the-art Rainton Bridge development.
“I set up Guroo just over two years ago, having spent 15 years commuting to the south of the country for my work. After such a long time, working for various educational companies, I decided to take the plunge and set up my own business right here on my doorstep.
“Guroo was only the second company to move into an office space at the sought-after e.volve building at Rainton Bridge, a state-of-the-art enterprise park on the outskirts of the city. In the relatively short time that it has been operating, Guroo has established itself really well.
“We have a growing team, expect to expand further in the future, and we have customers all over the country. It is vitally important to any employer that they have access to quality people and we have that in abundance here in Sunderland.
“Not only does being in this city set us apart from our competitors, but it also has significant cost benefits. Office space in Sunderland is great value for money and the support services in the city have been second to none. The e.volve building, as with many of Sunderland’s commercial offices, is a purpose built enterprise complex, so the infrastructure here is fantastic and the office was literally ready to move in to.
“I have to say that the most refreshing thing about having a business based here is the fact that you get all of the benefits of a big city enterprise culture, teamed with a rather more relaxed pace of life.”
