“Moving to Sunderland has given me the opportunity to enjoy a great career in a top performing university, but with a much calmer pace of life than the one I had in London. Commuting to work takes ten minutes, which compared to my commute in the City is fantastic.
“In Sunderland you can build a really strong career in a top organisation, but still have time to enjoy yourself after work. I have a great quality of life here, and really enjoy being close to the coast, in a green, clean environment.
“I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the students here, many of whom are from the area. They epitomise the city for me; down to earth, ambitious, and fun to work with, as are my colleagues.
“The quality of housing in Sunderland is excellent. I have a really spacious home in a lovely part of the city, paying half the amount of rent that I did in London, but for so much more space.
“I have time to lead a really active lifestyle in Sunderland. I often visit the Aquatic Centre and am a member of a running club, the Sunderland Strollers. The people here are friendly too and I have been able to settle into life really well.
“The centrality of Sunderland is great; for example I can travel to Durham or Newcastle, or indeed anywhere else in the region quickly and easily. In bigger cities, particularly in London, getting from place to place took such a long time. Sunderland life is completely different; it is a great city.”
