“I came to Sunderland to study for a BA Honours degree in glass and ceramics. The university has facilities that just cannot be matched anywhere else in the country and it was an easy choice to enrol here.
“It was largely due to my great experience of life as a student that I set up Juo Ltd with my business partner Joanne Mitchell. Sunderland seemed the natural choice for an art glass company and we decided that the National Glass Centre would be the perfect home for our business.
“Sunderland is a fantastic place to work. It is a really bustling and vibrant city, which is important for a creative company. Our studio overlooks Sunderland’s beautiful riverside; it is a truly inspirational location and being based at the National Glass Centre is really special. The natural light that we get in the studio is great and helps us to create some wonderful pieces and the fantastic views certainly get the creativity flowing.
“I have worked in other cities including Edinburgh, but for me, none compare with Sunderland as a place to work. The city is so lively and the transport links are fantastic. It is positioned at the heart of the region and is plugged into North East England’s infrastructure, meaning it is a highly accessible and convenient place to work.
“Working in Sunderland is a lifestyle decision and I am really glad that I chose such an inspiring city in which to base my business.”
